Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

When we go for a run or go to the gym, we engage in cardio-vascular exercise which can be very beneficial to the body as well as the mind. This kind of exercise, which significantly raises the heart rate, is often referred to as a ‘workout’.

We can also choose to put aside a period of time for the somewhat slower and quieter practice of yoga and/or mindfulness (meditation). These practices encourage us to ‘unhook’ our minds from the busyness of the day by turning our attention inwardly - placing our focus on the physical body and the breath it breathes. Exploring and developing such practices can help us to gain a better understanding and appreciation of our own body & self. This can help us to feel more centred and grounded, bringing a greater sense of calm and peace. Ultimately, we can become happier and more healthy human beings.

When the restlessness of the mind, intellect and self is stilled through the practice of Yoga, the yogi by the grace of the Spirit within himself finds fulfilment.’

The Bhagavad Gita
